Demineralization or Deionization is a process of removing mineral salts from water by using the ion exchange method. In case of most natural water sources, it is possible to use Demineralization and produce water of a higher quality than conventional distillation.
These plants are used in the hospitals and laboratories as well as in production of process water, apart from water for steam boilers and high-pressure hot water boilers, and cooling water in various industries.
As the plants of this type produce demineralized water by means of ion exchange technology, a typical Demineralization (DM) Plant offered by WATERTEC consists of two MS rubber-lined pressure vessels connected in series along with its internal fittings. These DM plants are loaded with very efficient CATION and ANION exchangers and are also equipped with degasification system to remove all traces of minerals from the system. The first unit consists of high capacity strongly acidic cation exchange resin, which converts positive ions of salt and replaces them with hydrogen ions to form respective acids, which are absorbed in next vessel by strongly basic anion exchange resin. The water obtained by this process shows conductivity less than 20 S/cm at 25C and total dissolved solids less than 10 ppm.
In 2-Bed DM Plants, strong acid cation exchanger and strong base anion exchanger resin are used for reducing Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) up to 2-5 ppm. Degasification unit is provided to decrease the load on ANION unit. Mixed Bed Units are used in series with 2-Bed DM Plant as a polisher unit which can produce treated water having conductivity 1 mS/cm.
Further high purity water can be achieved by mixed bed deionizers, which are designed to produce high purity treated water. They can be used as polishing units after 2-bed DM Plant to obtain high purity water.
